Halogen exchange between aluminum–titanium complex 1 (X = Cl) and an aluminum trihalide provides an alternative route to complex 1 (X = Br, I).[46] One or two halide atoms in complexes 1 can be substituted by an ethyl group when reacted with [AlEt3-nCln].[47]
