Reaction of trialkoxy(η5-cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) complexes with acetyl halides is a versatile method for the preparation of trichloro(η5-cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) (79)[181,182] and other [TiCpX3] (X = F, Br, I) complexes.[183] Trihalo(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) complexes, the first characterized alkyl-substituted trihalotitanium–cyclopentadienyl complexes, were prepared by this method.[184] This procedure is also suitable for mixed derivatives [TiCpCln(OPr)3-n].
