Chloro(η5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)titanium(II)diene complexes 158 can be pre­pared in moderate yields by reaction of [Ti(Cp*)Cl3] (6) with the correponding dienemagnesiumbis(tetrahydrofuran) complex (Scheme 82).[‌296‌,‌299‌] Probably for steric reasons, complexes 158 do not form adducts with pyridine, nitriles, phosphines, or phosphites. Complex 158 (R1=Me; R2=H) reacts with methylmagnesium iodide to give the corresponding methyltitanium(II)diene complex.[‌296‌] For the preparation of 14-electron complexes 158, reduction of [Ti(Cp*)Cl3] (6) with sodium/mercury in the presence of a substituted diene is not successful. The supine isomer is formed for 2,3-disubstituted butadiene complex 158 (R2=H; R1=Me, Ph); the prone conformation is found in 1,4-disubstituted butadiene complexes 158 (R1=H; R2=Me, Ph).[‌294‌,‌299‌]
