The halogenation of organomercury(II) derivatives has been studied extensively[‌667‌] and effected on an extremely wide variety of examples. Essentially the reaction is widely employed to determine the position of the mercury atom where other methods, such as NMR, are unavailable. Other studies focus on the mechanistic aspects of the reaction, and a comprehensive mechanistic review[‌667‌] and a detailed summary of substrates halogenated via organomercury(II) derivatives is available.[‌710‌]
