Aluminum alkoxides are very effective for epoxide ring-opening reactions. α-Pinene oxide rearranges to pinocarvenol in the presence of 1mol% of aluminum triisopropoxide at 100120°C for 1 hour, while pinanone is obtained upon conducting the reaction with 5mol% of aluminum triisopropoxide at 140170°C for 2 hours (Scheme 35).[‌42‌]
