Transition-metal-catalyzed hydroaluminations of alkenes by triorganoaluminum compounds differ from displacement reactions with alkenes and alkynes; the synthetic value of the former will be discussed separately in Section 7.1.9.6.2. This section summarizes the synthesis of triorganoaluminum compounds using uncatalyzed displacement reactions. The most commonly used starting triorganoaluminum is triisobutylaluminum, which ideally reacts with 3 equivalents of alkene to produce the new triorganoaluminum compound with evolution of 3 equivalents of isobutene (Scheme 4).[‌28‌]
