Cross-coupling reactions of Grignard reagents with vinyl halides using [1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane]dichloronickel(II) are described in Section Independently, it has been found that the coupling reaction of 1-bromo-2-phenylethene and aryl Grignards can be also catalyzed by bis(acetylacetonato)nickel(II). The coupling reaction of (E)-1-bromo-2-phenylethene with a 4-substituted aryl Grignard gives (E)-1-aryl-2-phenylethene derivatives 15 (5075% yield). This reaction proceeds in the presence of a catalytic amount of bis(acetylacetonato)nickel(II) (0.2mol%) (Scheme 11).[‌57‌]
