This section deals sequentially with the applications of the sodium halides (fluoride, chloride, bromide, and iodide) and sodium cyanide in synthetic organic chemistry. All of these compounds are commercially available, but both sodium fluoride and sodium cyanide are highly toxic and must be handled carefully.
