General Introduction
Acetylene is more acidic than either ethene or propene (by 11.5 and 10.5 pKa units respectively).[1] Thus alkynes do not require strong organometallic bases to be deprotonated, and species such as sodium metal, sodium amide, and dimsylsodium can be used for the preparation of alkynylsodium reagents.
