Despite the problems indicated in the introduction, reductive potassiation of a carbonhalogen bond is used for the preparation of alkylpotassium compounds. Butyl- (4050% yield after carbonation),[‌26‌,‌30‌,‌31‌] pentyl- (35% yield after carbonation, to give acid 1),[‌30‌,‌32‌,‌33‌] and dodecylpotassium (10% yield after carbonation)[‌34‌,‌35‌] have been obtained in this manner (Scheme 2).
