General Introduction

Organometallic compounds of alkali metals are of enormous value in synthetic organic chemistry. While organolithium compounds have been studied extensively, literature reports on analogous organorubidiums and -cesiums are relatively limited. However, there is increasing attention focused on the structures and reactivities of organorubidium and -cesium compounds.[‌1‌,‌2‌] Although the much higher reactivity of organorubidium and -cesium reagents may present some handling challenges during their use, this reactivity can be advantageous in carrying out synthetic reactions at lower temperatures, thus eliminating undesirable competing side reactions.
