1,4-Dihydroxyalk-2-ynes 133 are suitable starting materials for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted furans 134 (Scheme 45). Either isomerization to alkane-1,4-diones followed by cyclization, or a palladium-catalyzed isomerization–dehydration reaction leads to furans.[240,241]
