Reactions of halomethylisoxazoles are similar to those of other benzylic halides, so details are not given here. However, they are complementary to those of lithiomethylisoxazoles, since they allow a variety of groups to be introduced nucleophilic addition rather than electrophilic addition. The halomethyl compounds may be obtained by ring syntheses, by chloromethylation,[309] from hydroxymethylisoxazoles,[299] and by homolytic substitution in methylisoxazoles.
