11.9.4.3.3 Preparation and Reactions of Halomethylisoxazoles

DOI: 10.1055/sos-SD-011-00361

Wakefield, B.J.Science of Synthesis, (200211280.

Reactions of halomethylisoxazoles are similar to those of other benzylic halides, so details are not given here. However, they are complementary to those of lithiomethylisoxazoles, since they allow a variety of groups to be introduced nucleophilic addition rather than electrophilic addition. The halomethyl compounds may be obtained by ring syntheses, by chloromethylation,[‌309‌] from hydroxymethylisoxazoles,[‌299‌] and by homolytic substitution in methylisoxazoles.
