Vinylene carbonate (252) reacts with amides of aromatic acids in the presence of polyphosphoric acid to yield 2-aryloxazoles 253 (Scheme 112).[180] The reaction fails with the amides of phenylacetic, phenoxyacetic and 4-methylbenzoic acid.
