Standard modifications of substituents can be applied to tetrazoles. In general, substituents attached to a tetrazole, such as amines, behave normally and the electronic effects of the tetrazole are those of a strong electron-withdrawing group. Such transformations include the Sandmeyer reaction,[237] leading to the conversion of amino into nitro substituents, reaction with Lawesson's reagent for the conversion of oxygen into sulfur in high yields;[216] and the synthesis of imines from amines and carbonyls.[238]
