In a few cases, BischlerNapieralski-type closures have been achieved with unsaturated amides 223, producing the aromatic systems 224 directly (Scheme 102).[‌205‌‌208‌] There are, however, no general, simple ways in which to prepare the starting unsaturated amides. The substrates 223 shown in Scheme 102 are prepared by acylation of an imine,[‌205‌] or thermolysis of a dihydrooxazole,[‌206‌] or reaction of aniline with an alkylideneoxazolone.[‌207‌]
