6H-1,3-Oxazin-6-ones can be considered as unsaturated lactones with an additional heteroatom in the ring. Thus, the conversion of the lactone function into the lactam is readily accomplished by treatment with ammonium hydroxide as exemplified by the reaction of 2,5-diphenyl-6H-1,3-oxazin-6-ones 357 to 2,5-diphenylpyrimidin-4(3H)-ones 358 (Scheme 191).[‌376‌,‌441‌]
