Hydrogenation over palladium is the usual method for unspecific dehalogenation in all ring positions.[‌270‌,‌515‌,‌623‌‌631‌] The presence of a base, e.g., magnesium oxide, is necessary to prevent partial or complete reduction of the nucleus.[‌633‌] Examples for palladium-catalyzed dehalogenations are given in Table 4. Occasionally, Raney nickel is used as the catalyst.[‌632‌]
