Cyclization of pyrimidine-4,5-diamines with trifluoroacetic acid gives 8-(trifluoromethyl)purines directly without the need to isolate the intermediate 5-(trifluoroacetylamino)pyrimidin-4-amine, e.g. the formation of 8-(trifluoromethyl)purine-2,6-diamine 24 (Scheme 21).[179]
