The bridged annulene 5,10-epoxy[10]annulene (92) behaves as an aromatic 10π-system rather than as an oxepin, and reacts with copper(II) nitrate in acetic anhydride to give a 1:1 mixture of 1-nitro-5,10-epoxy[10]annulene (115) and 2-nitro-5,10-epoxy[10]annulene (116) (Scheme 34).[116]
