19.5.1.1.1 Method 1: One-Pot Reactions Involving Intermediate Aldimines

Subramanian, L. R.Science of Synthesis, (20041995.

The direct conversion of aldehydes into nitriles in a one-pot reaction is an important and valuable synthetic transformation. Many new methods for this conversion have been developed. One of the best choices for the direct conversion of aldehydes into nitriles is via the aldimines. The in situ generated aldimines are oxidized with a suitable oxidizing agent. The earlier reported methods are limited mostly to aromatic aldehydes, while the transformation of enolizable aliphatic aldehydes often gives unsatisfactory yields.
