Phillips, A. J.; Love, C. E.Science of Synthesis, (200720246.

The Claisen rearrangement is one of the most commonly employed rearrangement reactions for the synthesis of γ,δ-unsaturated esters and acids. Because of a well-organized transition state that results in predictable and reliable stereochemical outcomes, a number of variants of the reaction have been developed, and the reaction has been extensively reviewed.[‌25‌‌28‌] The most significant variant not described in this section is the Johnson ortho ester Claisen rearrangement, and the reader is directed to Section for information on this reaction.
