21.7.5 Product Subclass 5: β-Nitrogen-Substituted Alkanamides

DOI: 10.1055/sos-SD-021-00515

Manyem, S.; Sibi, M. P.Science of Synthesis, (200521576.

This subclass of compounds is far the most well-known among the β-heteroatom-substituted alkanamides, and rightly so. β-Amino acids, higher homologues of α-amino acids, have been studied intensely due to their biological importance.[‌2‌] Many approaches to this subclass have been investigated. The most common approach is the conjugate addition of a nitrogen nucleophile. Various sources of nitrogen nucleophiles are available depending on the synthetic needs.
