Reaction of esters and lactones with the combination of phosphorus pentasulfide and hexamethyldisiloxane gives the corresponding thiocarboxylic O-acid esters 7 and thionolactones in 21–87% yield (Schemes 6 and 7).[12] The yields are generally equal to or greater than those obtained with Lawesson's reagent under conventional conditions. In addition, the workup is easier with these reagents than with Lawesson's reagent.
