Sodium tetrachloroaurate(III) catalyzes intramolecular amine addition to triple bonds,[‌14‌] and is highly effective for the Markovnikov hydration of terminal alkynes (Scheme 4).[‌15‌] For symmetrical alkynes, the expected ketone is obtained in high yield, whereas for nonsymmetrical internal alkynes mixtures of both regioisomeric ketones 2 and 3 are obtained.
