26.2.1.7 Method 7: Ring Formation by [2+2] Cycloaddition

DOI: 10.1055/sos-SD-026-00397

Salaün, J.Science of Synthesis, (200526564.

The regio- and stereoselective [2+2] cycloaddition of ketenes to alkenes is the most common nonphotolytic method to form four-membered carbocycles (see HoubenWeyl, Vol. 4/4, p 174). Numerous reviews have been written on the synthetic usefulness of the resulting [2+2] cycloadducts.[‌6‌,‌27‌,‌35‌‌40‌]
