Peroxybenziodoxole 250 (see Section 31.4.1.1.2.3) is a useful reagent acting as a strong oxidant toward a variety of organic substrates, such as benzyl and allyl ethers,[‌87‌] cyclic acetals,[‌342‌] organic sulfides,[‌313‌] amides,[‌343‌] amines,[‌344‌] and phenols.[‌345‌] In particular, peroxybenziodoxole oxidatively cleaves cyclic acetals 249 to glycol monoesters 251 under mild conditions (Scheme 85).[‌342‌]
