2-Bromobenzo-1,4-quinone (190)[‌224‌] reacts with phenols 191 to give phenoxybenzoquinones 192 in yields of 7981%: the products are important intermediates in the synthesis of diaryl ethers (Scheme 65). By the use of the appropriate phenol 193 (R1=Bn), combined with a reduction step using sodium dithionite, this efficient strategy provides access to the isodityrosine derivative K-13 (Scheme 65).[‌225‌]
