Complexes of pyridinesulfur trioxide,[‌42‌] trimethylaminesulfur trioxide,[‌43‌] and triethylaminesulfur trioxide[‌38‌] have been reported to effect formation of aryl hydrogen sulfates in aprotic solvents. The aryl hydrogen sulfates thus prepared often undergo further modification under the reaction conditions to generate byproducts resulting from aromatic ring sulfonation, thus making it difficult to obtain the desired sulfate in high yield (Scheme 25).
