31.21.1.115 Method 115: Oxidation of Nitroso Compounds Using Iodosylbenzene with a Metal Catalyst

DOI: 10.1055/sos-SD-031-01277

Aitken, K. M.; Aitken, R. A.Science of Synthesis, (2007311309.

Simple nitrosoarenes are oxidized to nitroarenes in good yields when iodosylbenzene is used as the oxidant and an irontetraphenylporphyrin complex as a catalyst. Nitrobenzene, for example, is formed in over 90% yield in a few minutes when the reaction is performed at 0°C.[‌511‌]
