The use of titanium-based reagents to alkylidenate carbonyl groups is a well-known and widely used approach. The methylenation of aldehydes and ketones has a broader scope than other methods such as the Wittig reaction, but the principal advantage of this method is that it is possibile to alkylidenate carboxylic acid and carbonate derivatives.[‌192‌]
