The addition of allylic organometallics to aldehydes is established as a powerful strategy for the synthesis of highly functionalized alcohols.[346] Crotylboron reagents are believed to react through the chair-like transition states shown in Scheme 64. Thus, (E)-but-2-enyl boron reagents afford the anti-homoallylic alcohol 115A and (Z)-but-2-enyl boron reagents afford the syn-stereoisomer 115B.
