40.1.1.3.1.2.11 Variation 11: Photoamination of Vinylarenes

Doye, S.Science of Synthesis, (200940275.

Photoamination of unsaturated compounds[‌165‌] with ammonia or amines represents an interesting alternative to catalytic hydroamination processes. For example, irradiation of a mixture of indene with ammonia or a primary amine, benzene-1,3-dicarbonitrile, and 1,2,4-triphenylbenzene as a redox photosensitizer gives the corresponding anti-Markovnikov hydroamination product in a good yield (Scheme 49).[‌166‌] Methoxystyrenes undergo photoinduced nucleophilic addition of amines or alkylamines.[‌167‌] More information on the photoamination of styrenes can be found in HoubenWeyl, Vol. E 21e, pp 52395242.
