N-Iododimethylamine (104) can be prepared from dimethylamine using iodine (Methods A–C), iodine monochloride (Method D), N-iodosuccinimide (Method E), or nitrogen triiodide–ammonia complex (Method F); whereas N,N′-diiodo-N,N′-dimethylethane-1,2-diamine (105, R1 = R2 = Me) or 1,4-diiodopiperazine [105, R1,R2 = (CH2)2] can be formed from the appropriate amines by variations of Methods D and F (Scheme 57).[237,242–244]
