The sequence of silylation of the sulfone, followed by aldol condensation with an aldehyde, Peterson elimination, and sulfone elimination has been carried out as a one-pot procedure to furnish alkynes in good yields (Scheme 38).[70–73] The integration of all these steps is preparatively very attractive and very convenient as it eliminates the need for the isolation and purification of the products from the individual processes. Scheme 38 illustrates the utility of this method for the synthesis of several enynes.
