43.8.2.1.5.7 Variation 7: Carbenoid Rearrangement of 5-Methyltetrazoles

DOI: 10.1055/sos-SD-043-00415

Krueger, A.Science of Synthesis, (200843492.

5-Methyltetrazoles 70 can fragment in aromatic solvents or without a solvent to yield alkynes (Scheme 30). Aryl substituents with high migratory ability especially favor the reaction. Temperatures in the range of 150200°C are necessary for the fragmentation to take place.[‌110‌] As a leaving group, halogen, azide, amine, or hydroxy can be chosen.
