2,5,7,10-Tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)bicyclo[4.4.1]undeca-1,3,5,7,9-pentaene (63) and its corresponding iodo analogue can be prepared by quenching organometallic species prepared from 37 [either by lithiation with a combination of butyllithium, potassium tert-butoxide, and tetramethylethylenediamine[‌85‌] or by mercuration with mercury(II) acetate][‌86‌] with the appropriate electrophile (Scheme 27).
