Dimerization of propargyl alcohols 25 to give dienones 26 occurs in the presence of a cationic ruthenium complex (Scheme 10).[33] Although tertiary propargyl alcohols are required as the substrates, a broad range of functionality can be tolerated, but with unsymmetrical propargyl alcohols mixtures of E- and Z-isomers are obtained.
