The intramolecular cyclization of 1,5-enyne 203 in the presence of a ruthenium(II) complex gives the methylenecyclopentene 204,[‌138‌] whereas the 1,6-enyne 205 is converted into the methylenecyclohexene 207 in the presence of a neutral arene-tethered ruthenium complex 206[‌155‌] (Scheme 72). Both approaches have wider applications, and various labeling experiments have been performed in order to reveal the mechanisms of the reactions involved.
