Platinum supported on a zeolite or charcoal can be used in the selective reduction of the terminal double bond of long-chain dienes; however, a platinum/zeolite onto which tetraethoxysilane has been deposited by chemical vapor deposition gives superior yields for all reductions.[‌249‌,‌250‌] Some of the best yields are obtained by the reactions shown in Scheme 63.
