Because of the importance of conjugate addition in organic synthesis, new methods are continuously being developed using transition-metal catalysis. Besides the catalytic systems commonly used, some inexpensive cobalt complexes have proved to be efficient catalysts for these reactions. Michael adducts are generally obtained under mild conditions and reactions do not require the use of preformed organometallic derivatives.
