Performing oxidative cross-coupling reactions with external oxidants raises the additional challenge of controlling selectivity for the cross-coupled product over the homodimers of each coupling partner. Despite this difficulty, several impressive cross-coupling reactions using catalytic amounts of gold complexes have been disclosed.
