The Pschorr reaction of N-(2-aminophenyl)-N-methylpyridin-3-amine (396) produces a mixture of the two possible products of radical cyclization onto the pyridine ring: the 5-methyl-5H-pyrido[3,2-b]indole (398) and the 9-methyl-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole (397; Scheme 382).[173] For an experimental procedure see Section 10.23.2.1.1.5.1.6.
