General Introduction
The synthesis and chemistry of pyrido[1,2-a]indoles are reviewed in this section. Because the published chemistry around the core tricycle pyrido[1,2-a]indole (1) is limited, the related systems of indolo[1,2-a]quinoline (2), indolo[1,2-b]isoquinoline (3), indolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline (4), and indolo[1,2-f]phenanthridine (5) with benzo-fused rings at the pyridine ring are also covered in this subclass (Scheme 1). Because they are grouped together, to avoid confusion, the numbering system in the section titles will follow that for the core pyrido[1,2-a]indole (1) tricycle, as illustrated in Scheme 1.
