6H-Dibenzo[b,d]pyran-6-one derivatives 7 can also be prepared from methyl 2-bromobenzoates 5 and (2-hydroxyaryl)boronic acids 6. Suzuki–Miyaura cross coupling followed by spontaneous lactonization gives 6H-dibenzo[b,d]pyran-6-ones 7 bearing electron-donating or -withdrawing groups on both aromatic rings in good to excellent yields (Scheme 3).[5]
