An annulation process of 1-aryltetrazoles 858 with internal alkynes 859 affords quinolin-2-amines 860 in moderate to good yields (Scheme 334).[321] The reaction involves cyclization of 1-aryltetrazoles with internal alkynes via rhodium(III)-catalyzed double C—H activation and a copper(II)-mediated denitrogenation. In the absence of potassium acetate, inferior product yields are observed. Dimethylacetamide is the solvent of choice and symmetrical as well as unsymmetrical internal alkynes can be used.
