Several enzymes have been employed successfully for the transformation of hydrazides into the corresponding carboxylic acids. While amidases[‌68‌] cleave both amide and hydrazide functionalities, the use of tyrosinases[‌69‌,‌70‌] allows the chemoselective cleavage of hydrazides in the presence of amides. This particular method is thus highly useful for performing selective transformations in peptides, such as in the conversion of peptide 33 into its acid analogue 34 (Scheme 5). The reactions typically occur in buffered solutions under ambient conditions.
