General Introduction
Recently, there has been growing interest in the development of sustainable and efficient methods for the synthesis of organic compounds, particularly those derived from carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change, and its utilization as a feedstock for chemical synthesis can offer a solution to both environmental and economic challenges. One area of research that has garnered significant attention is catalytic C—C bond-forming reactions using carbon dioxide. This approach is a versatile and practical method for the synthesis of valuable carboxylic acid derivatives. Herein, we summarize the catalytic synthesis of alkanoic acids from alkyl (pseudo)halides (including alkyl alcohol derivatives), isolable organometallic species, alkenes, and alkanes with C(sp3)—H bonds using carbon dioxide.
