The N-silylated trimethylformimidamide trifluoromethanesulfonate 3 can be obtained in almost quantitative yield by treatment of N,N,N-trimethylformimidamide with trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (Scheme 2).[‌4‌] Further treatment of 3 with the weakly nucleophilic bulky base lithium hexamethyldisilazanide leads to formation of a silylformamidine, which can be considered as a latent nucleophilic carbene.[‌4‌,‌5‌]
