Whilst traditionally undertaken with aluminum trichloride and an acid chloride,[‌3‌] recent studies have demonstrated that the use of aluminum metal with microwave heating allows arenes and acid chlorides to react smoothly to produce aryl ketones.[‌4‌] Alternatively, in situ generation of an aluminum(III) species using electrochemical methods has permitted a two-step reaction to produce aryl ketones in good yield (Scheme 2).[‌5‌]
